FAST Classes

Food Awareness Safety Training

Note – FAST classes are currently being offered on a case by case basis. Please contact our office for more information.

The FAST course was developed to teach proper food handling techniques. Originally designed to target volunteers and non-profit sponsored events, it was expanded to reach food service owners, new employees and students. FAST Certification is valid for five years.

Twice per year, NDDH offers a Non-Profit Semi-Annual Session, which is open to all, but available to participants from non-profits at a reduced cost. Non-profits must provide a tax exempt number. Participants from non-profits are welcome to take FAST classes at other scheduled times but will be required to pay full charge.

Food Awareness Safety Training

The class teaches the importance of food safety in preventing foodborne illnesses. Students are provided with knowledge of major diseases such as E.coli and Salmonella and the importance of personal hygiene, hand washing, and proper temperature control. Also taught are appropriate methods for receiving, storing, preparing and cooking food items. Finally, students gain knowledge about effective methods of cleaning and sanitizing equipment and the importance of insect and pest control inside the food service establishment.
