Food Awareness Safety Training

The FAST course was developed to teach proper food handling techniques. Originally designed to target volunteers and non-profit sponsored events, it was expanded to reach food service owners, new employees and students. FAST Certification is valid for five years.

The class teaches the importance of food safety in preventing foodborne illnesses. Students are provided with knowledge of major diseases such as E.coli and Salmonella and the importance of personal hygiene, hand washing, and proper temperature control. Also taught are appropriate methods for receiving, storing, preparing and cooking food items. Finally, students gain knowledge about effective methods of cleaning and sanitizing equipment and the importance of insect and pest control inside the food service establishment.

The Fee Schedule for FAST classes can be found at the top of our Forms & Permits page.

Classes are offered to participants from non-profit organizations at a reduced cost of $40.00/participant. Volunteer non-profits must provide a tax exempt number.

Class size limited to 20 participants.

If you have a large group (10 or more people) and would like to schedule a private class for your organization, please call our office at (860) 774-7350 or email us at email@nddh.org
