The Qualified Food Operator Course (QFO)

The Qualified Food Operator Course (QFO) incorporates all of the information taught in the FAST but in much greater detail. You will learn the standards in food safety, food-borne diseases, and food service sanitation. The exam (given at the end of the class) certifies you as a Qualified Food Operator, which fulfills the CT Public Health Code requirement and is a national certification from the National Restaurant Association. The QFO course is offered on a quarterly basis and is taught by staff who are not only certified QFO teachers but also experienced food handlers. The course incorporates the "Serve Safe Course book", which was produced by the International Food Safety Council of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.

“Each person owning, operating, or managing any food service establishment designated as either class III or IV shall be a qualified food operator or shall employ on-site at least one (1) qualified food operator who is in a supervisory position at said establishment.”
— CT Public Health Code, Sec. 19-13-B42
