Reducing Food Borne Illness Risks at Our Agricultural Fairs
Two of Connecticut's largest and oldest agricultural fairs fall within the NDDH service district. Each year, the Brooklyn Fair, held in late August and the Woodstock Fair, always Labor Day weekend in early September, attract international, national, state, regional, and local visitors. Thousands of fairgoers, hundreds of animals, amusement rides, and plenty of food choices create the perfect environment for fun... and food borne illness! NDDH works with fair management officials, fair food vendors and the general public to reduce the risk of illness through food service inspections, vendor education, and on-going awareness campaigns. Grant funding also allowed NDDH to purchase hand sanitizers that are placed at both fairs in high-traffic, high-risk areas. Hand washing with soap and water is always best, but regular use of these sanitizers is increasing awareness and helping to minimize food borne illness! Sanitizing Scenes from the Fair
